WITH the glitzy and the glamorous all making their way to the coastal town of Swakopmund this coming weekend, one can only hope MTC and NBC pull off an unforgettable night.
Everyone in the entertainment industry looks to the NAMAs as the crème de la crème of award shows in Namibia (not like they really compete with any other award show in the country).
Time and again the NAMAs executive committee challenges itself with very alluring themes and extravagant stages, but always seem to lack something somewhere.
Blunders occur more times than one would think and no one is sparred with tweeters constantly making memes and tweeting jokes online from how someone is dressed or when a presenter fails to pronounce words articulately.
This auspicious ceremony is obviously built for artists and entertainers in general to congratulate each other for another year in which music was made. But this year seems to be a little bit different as younger and more vibrant musicians are nominated and the older guns are a salty.
Veteran artists like The Dogg and Ras Sheehama, as well as younger artists like Young-T have taken to social media to air out their views with some of the artists wanting to boycott this year’s NAMAs.
It is pretty obvious that the NAMAs never go a year without criticism and hate, but they are really doing the most when it comes to promoting local music. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt for now, even if they tend to be controversial at times.
But will they exceed all expectations? Will the night be one to remember or is twitter going to be more entertaining than watching the show itself ?
I personally cannot wait to see what they have in store this year. The NAMAs band promised to deliver top notch live performances, and they also assured the public that all the performers will sync with the lights, camera and with the dancers.
Swakopmund also could not have been a better town to host the event as its scenery and surreal landscapes makes it even that much sweeter.
Make your way to the NAMAs and support your local artists.
