THe Namibian Wildlife Resort (NWR) has announced the appointment of Matthias Mpareke Ngwangwama as the new chief officer in charge of strategy and projects at the hospitality institution.
Ngwangwama is the longest-serving chief financial officer at NWR, a portfolio he occupied for the past five years prior to his latest assignment.
The parastatal’s Managing Director, Zelna Hengari is of the opinion that the appointment is a “fortunate” move to the operations of NWR.
“Having recently acquired his PhD in Business Management and Administration from the University of Stellenbosch (Business School), he will greatly use his newly acquired knowledge and previous work experience to guide us in achieving our objectives,” noted Hengari.
“I am very grateful for his role as chief financial officer at NWR – more than anyone else; he was instrumental in our attaining a measure of financial stability and getting in compliance with statutory obligations such as up to date annual financial reporting. He leaves a great legacy there on which to build in his new key role at NWR”.
On his part, Ngwangwama indicated that during his tenure as chief financial officer, his mind pre-occupied with managing the cash flow of the organisation, which demanded discipline and inventiveness. “From that perspective, we ensured that operational obligations were meet and that all salaries of our employees were paid on time. I am also glad that at no time was I embroiled in any scandals or controversies as I was also the Chairperson of the Tender Committee,” Ngwangwama remarked.
He further explained that he has worked in diverse sectors within the Namibian economy, such as postal services, finance, youth development services and now tourism. However, his new role will ultimately define his legacy at the organisation as he is now tasked with ensuring the implementation of the ‘Integrated Strategic Business Plan’ that NWR spent the better part of last year working on.
The plan aims to elevate NWR to be a leader in accommodation provision on the African continent within the next five years. With this goal in sight, Ngwangwama’s position is said to be critical to ensure that the organisation rallies behind this set objective.
