THE Omaruru Constituency Youth Forum (OCYF) held its third annual information sharing day last week under the theme “information changes situation”.
The day which saw over 100 people converge together intended to bring together institutions that play a role in youth development in society and the youth from in and around Omaruru to share information. The main aim of the information sharing day is to close the gap between the flow of information on the different type of services which the various youth-centered institutions render and how best these services can be accessed as well as utilized.
The chairperson of the Forum Serron Nghoshi emphasized the importance of the event as a vital platform for the youths, especially those from rural areas with limited to no internet access.
“This event is so important to the rural youth who find it difficult to get information like application forms of various institutions and because they do not have access to internet like urban youth. They can use this platform to expand their knowledge and not only that but they as the youth can learn from one another as well,” explained Ngoshi.
Although this year had few sponsors, Nghoshi called it an improvement compared to the years before and 2017 when the event did not take place due to limited resources.
“We are hoping that it gets the attention of more stakeholders in order to allow it to grow in the future since it is the initiative of the OCYF.
“This directly contributes to youth development and I wish not to only have it in Omaruru alone but my dream is to see this event expand also in other towns and accommodating entrepreneurs.
The aim is to further find a way on how the platform can remedy youth economic emancipation,” he said.
Ngoshi stressed the importance of sponsorship and institutions partaking in the event adding that the installment can grow if more stakeholders come on board.
“The youth can only turn into responsible educated individuals if they are well informed and like many others I too believe that, information changes situation.”
