061MUSIC, the brainchild of the late rapper Curtis Popyeni Yearwood , known by many as Catty Catt, has been making rounds in the local entertainment scene as the record label is about to release a collaboration album with its old and new members. Ever since 2010, the record label has received Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMA’s) nominations and scooping two NAMA’s. Members of the label include Sinna- G, Quido, Lucci, Arlinda, Tuko including Aimee and Balu, who are their latest additions. Since the beginning of this year, 061Music has been recording music and working on their brand. This has culminated in them producing their first single titled ‘Down 4 the Nana’, which was produced by Doming Beatz and is currently making waves on local radio stations. According to Sinna G, who seems to be taking the leading role in managing the record label, ‘Down 4 the Nana’ basically means ‘to be loyal’. The song has hard hitting 808 beats with tight synths, mixed with Caribbean beat. The song also featured Balu, Sinna-G and Tuko, who each bring a different dynamic to the track. The last time 061Music released music was in October 2016 with the album titled ‘Area Code’. The album spawned singles such as ‘Story No Be Keke’ and ‘Walk Tha Walk’. “The album did its rounds on local radio stations, but for the fantastic album, we feel we did not get adequate attention for it and therefore will be planning a re-release of “The Area Code” album so more people can hear it,” Sinna G said. He continued saying that 061Music has changed their style of music for the latest album and aligned to the new trends while keeping the original 061Music flavour. “The album is actually a compilation of hot singles and is titled ‘Nothing but Beautiful Music’, scheduled for release in October this year,”Sinna-G explained. He said 061Music has been looking for the right talent to join the label and has found the right mix of artists who are unique in their own right and will take the music label forward. Balu, who is one of the new members on the 061Music label, said that he was thrilled when he joined the team. “I feel that this team represents what I represent and I fit the direction where the team is heading. 061Music is a great platform for me to take my career further and my style is more ghetto RnB but I consider myself a diverse musician who can work on any kind of beat’, said Balu. Aimee, another new addition to the label told Confidente that she was quite surprised when Sinna- G contacted her to join the label. “I thought about it for a little bit and I think I got what it takes. Not to toot my own horn but, I have the drive, determination and talent. I have been in music since a little girl in church and have a very big musical background through my family,” Aimee added She is currently working on her solo material as well, bridging between all sorts of genres but fully cemented in RnB music. Another member of label, Tuko, who previously featured on the “Area Code” album, said that he has a huge following in his location. “People who know me are mostly those who listen to underground rap, but my plan is to come out and be more commercial. My main goal is to spread stories about my neighbourhood in Katutura, details about my hardships while praising the potential I has seen,” said Tuko On Friday 31 August, 061Music will be hosting a‘Freedom Square Tribute Show’ in Freedom Square, for Catty Catt as well as others who have passed on and hailed from Freedom Square. The crew will also be performing at the Simply You Lifestyle Awards on Saturday September 1.
