THE Sam Nujoma stadium in Katutura was packed to the rafters as hundreds of Namibian music fans came out in throngs to celebrate the best in local and international music festival. People from all walks of life descended to the 081Every1Fest concert, including President Hage Geingob, Vice President Nangolo Mbumba and as well as Namibia first lady, Monica Geingos. According to the organisers, the main reason of the 081Every1Fest concert was aimed towards the alleviation and lessening the burden of homelessness in Namibia. The proceeds of the concert go to the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia’s Buy a Brick Initiative by Standard Bank. The show started on time as planned, with all the performers gracing the stage with electrifying performances. Nigerian superstar, Davido closed the show in a dramatic fashion by jumping into the crowd and performing his hit track FIA in middle of close to 15 000 crowd losing his shoes in the process. His Nigerian counterpart, Runtown, rocked the crowd with thousands of fans singing his hit songs, including Leg Over and Mad Over You. After Namibian Annual Music Award (NAMA) Male Artist of the Year winner Kalux got off stage, Confidente asked how he felt. He said that this was a great opportunity for any local artists to perform. “I enjoyed it, but some of my fans were disappointed due to the fact that I am the male artist of the year and I should have gotten a slot much later than the one I got,” he complained. Adora, who also gave a wonderful performance, simply said it was amazing. “I enjoyed every minute of it.” MTC’s Chief Human Capital and Corporate Affairs, Tim Ekandjo, who doubles as festival director, said that the festival has been a resounding success. “Nothing gave us greater joy, then seeing the Sam Nujoma Stadium filled to the brim with mostly young Namibians, who through the expressive form of art, came to support a cause which is worthy, noble and empowering to the less fortunate” Ekandjo said. “Owning your own home is a liberating feeling and our gratitude to all Namibians who came to the show, we are truly humbled, putting this show together was no easy task but we knew that the cause if far greater than anything else.” Ekandjo added. Ekandjo expressed his utmost thanks to all of the sponsors who came on board to make the 081Every1Fest one of the highly celebrated and appreciated music festival. He also complimented the Namibian Police, City Police and all security officers for a commendable job to control and maintain safety at the stadium.
