Swakomund Mondesa-based acapella band, African Vocals, is set to undertake its third European Tour after hosting what is expected to be a mouthwatering fundraiser featuring music sensation, Elemotho. The band had travelled on this tour before in 2014 and 2017. This time around the band will travel to Germany.
African Vocals consists of 10 young men between the ages of 21 and 28. They all started as singers in school, church and youth choirs, before they were founded as an all male acapella band in 2012.
According to the event organisers, the band has been on a double mission and is now on a path to show the true and authentic Namibian culture, music, traditions and spirit to the world to convey a positive image of Africa.
“Given their background in a township, they also want to give hope, inspiration and encouragement to young people with the same background to have a dream and to work hard for it,” said Silvia Sala who is part of Elemotho’s management.
“That is why the group always donates a share of the tour income to charity projects in Mondesa, to give back to the community.” she said.
Sala continued: “For their fundraising concert, the African Vocals were lucky to win several guests as supporters. So the Marimba Group of the Mondesa Youth Opportunities (MYO) will perform as well as the Swakopmunder Männergesangsverein (SMGV), the oldest male choir in Namibia.”
“As special guest, African Vocals are honoured and happy to welcome the well-known Namibian artist, Elemotho, who is a big believer in youth development and cultural heritage, and who did not hesitate to give his support and confirm his participation in the concert.”Sala said.
The concert will take place on 1 September 2018, at Namib Primary School hall, Swakopmund, starting at 7 pm.
