A new record label, Pamoja Records, founded by Afro-pop musician Toivo Nuugulu, also known as Leather Mein, was officially launched last Friday with Information and Communication Technology Stanley Simataa giving the keynote address.At the event, Leather Mein, released his new music video titled ‘Give Me Dance’ featuring Patoranking from Nigeria. The passionate innovator told the media that he identified a gap in the industry to supply the corporate world and individual artists a state of the art recording studio. “I am convinced that Pamoja Records studio will be a state of the art Namibian local content production hub, structured to provide a bridge for second- economy independent music creators and producers,” said Leather Mein. The Namibian Society of Composer and Authors of Music (NASCAM) Chief Executive Officer, John Max commended the drive and innovation by the youths and professionalism added to the industry that he has served for over a decade “I am excited to see this new chapter unfolds with endless opportunities availed to our upcoming artists in the Namibian music industry. This is something that we need and will support in the years to come,” Max said. The Pamoja Records’ Studio Manager, Sacky Mathews said that the studio is not just about making music but will strive to reach greater heights by raising its operational ethics. “We are all about professionalism, developing good relations and producing master pieces,” Mathews said. The records label has signed rapper Hilifa 94 and seasoned producer Elvo as the first artist and producer respectively. Hilifa told Confidente that he is excited and is looking forward to working with Pamoja Records. “I signed a very attractive contract. Just watch this space because I am dropping my first project under the label very soon,” said Hilifa At the launch, the Dogg, Lady May, Himba Boi, Hilifa94, Top Cherie and opera singer Emily gave electrifying peroformance.
