…councillor embraces development

RESIDENTS of Katutura and surrounding suburbs can now benefit from an ultra-modern gym facility that officially opened its doors last Saturday at Soweto Medical Centre in Soweto. The new gym, known as ‘Genesis Fitness’, was officially commissioned by Windhoek’s Mayor Muesee Kazapua and saw a huge interest from residents who flocked to the facility for the official launch last weekend. John Pandeni Constituency’s Councillor Rachel Jacob told Confidente early this week said that the development will positively impact the health and well-being of Katutura residents, especially the youth. “I have just spoken to the owner and he assured me that the services being rendered at the Genesis Fitness are affordable and that people can no longer drive to the city centre but instead walk to the gym in Katutura. The manager has also informed me that they have created job opportunities for young people and that a total of 21 employees have been employed at the gym,” she said. She said the new gym will impact the lives of young people positively as they mainly indulge in crimes, drugs and alcohol abuse. “I have seen young people registering for membership in numbers. This development will see young people taken away from shebeens and that will be beneficial to their health,” she stated. Councillor Jacob called on both parents and young people in her constituency to cease the opportunity and maximise on the services being rendered at the Genesis Fitness Gym. Genesis Fitness Director Oliver Mutumbu expressed his joy regarding the turn-out at the official launch, adding that young people have started making use of the services since Saturday. Confidente visited the new gym and found both young and old patrons doing all kinds of exercises with fancy equipment in the double story gym. Lukas Andimba was one of the people Confidente spoke to and he welcomed the development, saying that such services are good for people’s health. “This is probably the biggest and modern gym in Katutura with state-of-the-art equipment,” he said. Angela Katuamba, who recently came from Europe, expressed her joy and happiness and commended the owners for bringing such facilities to Katutura. “There are no variables in terms of service delivery. They have competent trained personnel who have been willingly helping and assisting us as beginners,” said Katuamba. “They give us basic instructions without discriminating and I am so happy that among the staff they have employed a person with disability an indication that they do not discriminate,” she said. The gym which brought smiles to many people in the location renders different services with a monthly premium membership of N$450 (full package). Other membership options are; N$400 monthly instalment for 24 months, N$300 per month for students and N$250 monthly for pensioners. The Genesis Fitness offers other different activities such as classes in yoga, spilates, cycling classes, fitness instruction at no ad- ditional cost. The gym is along Abraham Mashego Street in Soweto and opens Mondays to Thursdays between 05h00 and 21h00.
