NAMIBIAN comedian Tapiwa Makaza, also known as Taap The Guy, is set to perform in Cape Town at the Kasi Comedy Night on 4 October. Taap will be performing alongside renowned South African comedians, Stuart Cairns, Mira and Esti Strydom. Taap, who recently started a Namibian sketch comedy show, has risen to Namibian’s comedy royalty with his fans now able to view his comedy show on You Tube channel. He is also slowly making a name for himself on the international scene. The invitation to Cape Town comes after he spent most of 2017 on a luxury cruise ship as a comedian. “My experience on that cruise ship was definitely an eye opener and also life changing. I got to learn about so many cultures and they got to learn about my culture as an African,” he said Taap further said that the experience on the ship made him feel proud of his heritage and the people made it easier for him to tell jokes about African stereotypes. “I performed every day for seven months on the cruise ship and that taught me a lot, because since I won Last Comic Standing when I was fifteen years old I grew up faster than most of my peers,” he continued. Taap is currently finishing a marketing degree at Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST). He said that after completing his studies he plans to go overseas. “I have plans to tour more and to go live in Americaand try to blow up there. I also have plans on networking with other comedians so that I can bring them here as well,” Taap said After winning Last Comic Standing, Taap toured the country with Lazarus Jacobs and Slick The Dick as well as representing Namibia in Los Angeles at the World Championships of Performing Arts. He has also been awarded Comedian of the Year 2013. This year; he was nominated for the coveted Savannah Pan-African Comic of the Year 2018 award, which took place in South Africa.
