NAMIBIA by virtue of holding the Chairmanship of the regional body, SADC, can’t be mute on the developing situation in Zambia, with Chinese loans.
It is understood that the Chinese are taking over some strategic national assets of Zambia, due to non payments on Chinese loans. Such actions constitute a flagrant violation of the inviolability principles of sovereignty of not only Zambia, but any sovereign nation and member of the United Nations.
This must surely prompt attention from the SADC Chair! Prompt intervention in defence of a member of it’s grouping will send a signal to China to respect sovereignty, not only of Zambia, but the rest of us.
Chinese fin-bellicose diplomacy must be halted. New methods of repayments of Chinese loans must be explored, short of infringing on the sovereignty of independent States.
Were is African pride, in managing our sovereignty in the region? I urge our President not to allow regional disintegration to fester under his watch. It will haunt us as Namibians. So my humble advice is that the President must initiate diplomatic rescue plan for Zambia.
