WHILE many youngsters continue to languish in poverty due to unemployment and in some cases get addicted to drugs and alcohol, 27-year-old Erickson Paulus, well known around town as ‘Erick the Dish Master’, says there is so much potential, especially in the area of entrepreneurship. Paulus, who is a DSTV dish installer, says he does it to ensure he can provide for his family and four employees. Sharing his life story with Confidente’s Youth Corner, Paulus did not mince his words when he warned his peers and other youth to stay away from harmful drugs and to avoid alcohol abuse, which can rob them their hopes and dreams. He further stressed the need for support from family, friends and society for any young person wishing to change their lives and go into business, just like he needed the support he received. “I am really thankful for the support I have been given since I started this business. Thanks a lot Namibia, please keep up the support and keep supporting local businesses for the good of our country. To the youth, please stay away from drugs and let’s all work hard.” Born in the north and raised by a single mother in Lderitz, the young man is not shy to admit that nothing comes easy in life. “I was raised by a single and very hard working woman. She has been selling kapana in the street of Luderitz just to make sure we have something to eat. It was not an easy task and this really makes me strong and in my belief that nothing comes easy in life,” Paulus stated. He is the sole owner of Quick Connecting Installation cc, a company that installs and connect DSTV for families in Windhoek and its vicinity. The often-beaming dish installer says that although his company is not where he wants it to be yet, he is proud of how far he has come in the past five years. “I would like to see myself providing more employment to as many as I can. But I have to say I am grateful for who I have become in the past five years. I started all alone, with nothing, but today I am proud to be an employer of four men who are also bread winners in their families,” he said. Paulus, who would like to see his company branch out to different places countrywide says that he believes in fast service. “My team and I make sure that no one waits for long to have their DStv to be installed. The day you call us it is the same day you get your DStv installed,” he says with a persuasive smile. He adds that everyone aspires to be different in life and those differences allow them to think differently and venture in different businesses and their build empires. “I believe in myself I have self-confidence. I do not do what people think is the best for me, but I do what is best for me and my business. I respect my clients very much and I always make sure that my clients are satisfied,” he says with conviction.
