THE national under-20 football team whose participation in the annual regional competition was not confirmed until the eleventh hour is drawn against defending champions South Africa in Group B of the COSAFA Under-20 championship.
The regional championship scheduled from 2 to 14 December in Kitwe, Zambia saw the draw conducted today putting Namibia in the same group with Mauritius, and Eswatini (formerly known Swaziland).
From the draw, Namibia could have their only tough match against pre-tournament favourite defending champion South Africa but can see off minnow’s opponents in their Eswatini and Mauritius.
Hosts Zambia is in Group A against Malawi, new comers Reunion and Mozambique termed as the group of death.
Group C, comprises of Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Angola and Botswana.
Namibia who did not feature in the 2016 edition because of lack of funding returned to the competition in 2017 and narrowly missed out in the semi-final encounter after a 0-0 draw against Zimbabwe.
The top team in each group and the best-placed runner-up will advance to the semi-finals.
