By John Tuerijama THE long wait for the kickoff of the Namibia Premier League (NPL) is finally over, with the 2018/19 football season scheduled to commence at Sam Nujoma Stadium tomorrow with the Buccaneers from Dolam taking on Tura Magic. The match is expected to attract the football-hungry fans and diehards and is likely to turn into a fierce battle as both teams want to collect the maximum points. Tura Magic did fairly well during the 2017/18 football season, ending the campaign in seventh place while the black-and-white outfits, settled in eighth position. The likes of Orlando Pirates FC defender Riaan Hananub are expected to deliver the magical showdown the Friday evening. It’s however not clear which team signed which players, as almost all premier league clubs kept the information close to their chests. And for premier league clubs to ensure that they attract huge crowds to their matches, it’s time footballers start playing their hearts out, and giving the spectators more attractive football, if the NPL at all wants to introduce a semi-professional set-up. Interestingly, two perennial foes Otjiwarongo-based Life Fighters FC and defending champions African Stars FC have agreed to have their opening match in Windhoek at Sam Nujoma Stadium on Sunday, in what is expected to be another fierce contest. Life Fighters FC ended the past season in tenth place, and the pressure is more on them to deliver although African Stars FC will want to start the season on a high note after enlisting the services of former Brave Warriors player Robert Nauseb. Black Africa FC is likely to collect maximum points over the weekend after drawing against Rundu-based outfit Julinho Sporting FC at the Rundu Sport Stadium. The famous black-and-red striped club is likely to give their opponents a good run for their money. Newly promoted outfit, the Karasburg-based Young Brazilians FC will surely enjoy the home-advantage and have some surprises in store for the visiting Blue Waters FC. Young Brazilians FC tasted some glory a few months ago when they engaged Black Africa FC in Keetmanshoop, and drew.
